"I'm a Problem" - THE ORIGINAL, Mixtape Review by Rex Stone

Name: The Original

Mix tape: I’m A Problem

Hometown: New Bedford, MASS

Contact:www.myspace.com/jaytheoriginal

The Good:

I actually think that you have some skills on the microphone. I like that you are not scared to say what you want and to whom you want. You let yourself go on your songs and you like to push the envelope. I like your flow on most of your tracks even when you get off the beat. You are good enough to carry your own CD’s you don’t really need collaborations.

The Bad:

You really need to clean up your production. You have a lot more skills than a lot of your competition but you need to work on your delivery. I can hear the spots where your vocals need to be turned down and some places the music turned up. I have a problem with this because you have put out so many mix tapes. I understand when you have songs in your head and you want to make them but you don’t always have to put them out. Please get in the studio and make a song I think it would make you a lot more credible.

The Truth:

You are good but are you as good as the competition? I think you could be. If you spend your time making a quality product and then giving it to the masses you would be a lot more credible. Right now I think that you seem more like just some punk on the mic talking about what you going to do to the people who diss you, like you, or want to have sex with. The same old expectations from an out gay rap artist. Look into other beats and styles; there is enough Lil Kim wannabes. I want to express to you that you are a good rapper but your lyrical content should be more complex. Step it up or get stepped on.

The Recommendation:

Mash it but don’t expect to be blown away!

Lyrically, he is one the better out MC's out there. He does need to work on an album with original material and best believe I will be sending him some of that new shit I got cooking up. I gotcha O :)

Let me state that I am not calling Original a "punk" because I don't want to seem like I am judging you personally. I am talking about the content of the rhymes not your character.

Just to start out. NONE of this is meant to sound like I'm pissed off or bitching since I have that outlook on some people LOL..

Just wanted to say thank you for doing the review and comments. Things I'm pointing out are.

1. I am working my ass off on production wise and have come a huge step since I dropped my first c.d.

2. Besides the sexual tracks that I do every now and then. Unlike 99.9% of gay artists, I never mention sexual shit in my tracks cause I am more lyrical then that so I span myself out

3. I idolize Kim to the fullest and everyone knows that but the last thing I try and do is be a gay version of a female rapper. I respect what they have done and the style they have brought to the game. I don't like to mimic. I did the Kim tracks, that was about it. The How Many Licks was more of a tribute. That was written back in 2006 before I was even rapping. So had to redo it for the people who heard it back then..

4. Also would like to point out because you did mention there ARE a lot of wannabe's out there. Hate to expose people so not going to but the only cats that get the most cred and respect ARE the ones who mimic and it's pathetic. The people like me who are writing off the dome and coming up with 100% raw original material gets hated and why ? When we have people that just released some tapes copying EXACT lines and phrases from Kim, Fox, Nicki and Remy...

Not you Rex. Just saying people need to focus more on lyrical talent and originality cause most gay rappers when they try and be lyrically original it's not working. Get out of the ABC shit already....

Thanks for the comments and will take the bad/ opinionated suggestions into consideration...
